What we do
Krotoa Africa's goal is to restore the dignity of the people by making the brand accessible to all.We care about our community.
We are committed to giving back to the community and have embarked on various social responsibility projects.
We will uplift the community with emphasis on the younger generation.
Krotoa was the niece of the Khoi Chief, Autshumao. She was chosen to live in the Jan van Riebeeck household as a slave.
She mastered their language and became:
1) the first negotiator between the Khoi and the European settlers.
2) the first indigenous South African to be baptized a Christian
3) partner in the first interracial marriage.
4) one of the first to be imprisoned on Robben Island where she died.
She was torn between her marriage and Khoi heritage and was distrusted by both. Would South African history have taken a different route if she was successful?
In 2024 we celebrated her 350th Anniversary and a group of people decided to establish a clothing brand to honour her as part of our heritage - Krotoa Africa - www.krotoafrica.co.za
